Oh how that is soooooo true!! So it's my turn to host Sugar High Friday! I am really excited about it! As you all know the ever fabulous Jennifer at Domestic Goddess started this grand day of sugar induced comas for us all and for that I am eternally thankful!! I love love love me some sugar and this is such a great excuse to find new recipes that fit into the theme for the month! For 16 months now we have experimented with apples, spices, nuts, honey and citrus. We have used coffee, custard and of course the ying and yang of sweets: Dark and White Chocolate. We have tried our hands at puff pastry, pies and tarts and seducing our loved one(s). We have even dared to go low....
So what else is left, you may ask? Well..... Rum, Tequilla, Burbon, Whiskey, Gin, Vodka, Limoncello, Wine..... get my drift? This month's challenge is to liven up the party with a drunken dessert! No liquor or spirit is off limits.... but let's try to stay away from the ever popular rum cake....
Send me your entry by April 21st and look for the round up on April 23rd.
Cheers! |

post a commentOO fun!! I am making something with Limoncello..mmmm :)
God I love that stuff!! I went to Italy when I was in college and we bought some that was locally made in Sorrento where we were staying and I just haven't found any that holds a candle since.... ahhhhhh.... to go back.....

What timing! I'm making a Tres Leches cake for an after work get-together this Friday. It's got Rum in it so I guess it qualifies. And what's more fun than feeding your co-workers rum laced cake after work......hehe
Oh yum, GREAT idea! I'm all for this one! I was catching up on your posts and I have to say that I love the cake you made for your daughter's birthday party - it may not have come out looking exactly like you had originally planned, but I still think you're amazing!
an excellent, and very southern idea. pass the bourbon.
Oh this one is totally right up my alley. I cannot wait to get hiccup cooking!
What a great choice. Now I just have to decide between Irish Coffee Pie or Frozen Daiquiri Souffle - decisions, decisions, decisions.
can anyone participate in this?
Sure! Anyone can send in an entry!
Happy baking!
Chan
cool! thanks!
If you'll allow someone new to join this, I would love to be in it. Naturally, in view of my particular interest, it would have to be something historic. I am thinking maybe "Whisky Apples" from an English cookbook from 1870? Unless I find something more tempting. Would that be acceptable?
Hi, Chandra ... I just found your blog through "Very Good Things" and, wow, you are one amazing baker! I could eat everything on this site, except maybe Damon Fowler's tart. ;-)
Anyway, I'm all for SHF. Great theme!
I love your blog. I like to bake with liquor also, I find it adds something especially Grand Marnier for brushing sponge cake layers. I have a blog if you have a chance visit mine at http://cheftami.blogspot.com/
I couldnt find your email. So, here http://2girlsinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2006/04/sugar-high-friday-17.html

I didn't realize this was the theme this month, or I would have planned ahead. But impulsively, I baked up something yesterday that fits your theme.
If you'll have mercy on a slacker, here's my post:

If not, it's cool.
Thanks either way for a great idea and a beautiful site.
Will the results be posted here--or on another site? I'm anxiously waiting :)
Well, I'm new to the sugar High Fridays but discovered it through Cream Puffs in Venice... So I clicked and here I am on your lovely blog, a bit too late I see. Hm? Well, I'd love to participate sometime so let me know when the next SHF is up for show! Thanks! Anne from www.annecuisine.com
But we Love liquor!
It is Quicker than anything else.
It is more glorious.
It is our father's
And our mother's
God Blessed Liquor
Or who would drink Wine?
I'd like to contribute, too! Are you a wine lover? Check out this article for great tips on selecting the best wine gift!
I have to admit to loving food, liquor and wine. Rum and raisen icecream or chocolate, red wine white wine its all good (not a drunk honestly), seriously Liquor can add that extra special something to a meal, it can enhance and flavour meat, be used for a dressing or sauce and of course goes with almost any dessert or sweet, and to finish it off there is a wine for every conceivable meal.
I have to say I love alcohol in food, wine adds a certain flavour to meats and I have had beef and steak in both beer and guiness and it was lovely, desserts with alcohol are just yummy.
Chocolate pie with rum is the best of the best
